Our School

Lisgar Elementary School is a Kindergarten to Grade 8 school that serves the community on the east mountain in Hamilton within the area defined by Mohawk Road, Upper Ottawa, North of the Linc and west of the Mountain Brow. The community is made up of approximately 20 percent ESL/ELL families both new to Canada and speaking another language at home. Lisgar Staff and School Council continually reflect and examine ways to embrace our Parent Community in order to help our families support their children with their education.

The school was built in 1963 and opened in 1964. Lisgar was originally built as a Kindergarten to Grade 5 school. In September 2003, after the closing of Hampton Heights Middle School, Lisgar became a Kindergarten to Grade 8 school. Lisgar is an inclusive community focused on providing an environment where students can strive to reach their full potential. 

We are a neighbourhood school which operates on a balanced day timetable, where students have 2 nutrition breaks each day. We also offer a milk program and nutritional snack program for all of our students. A minimal number of students require transportation. Bussing is provided in accordance with the HWDSB Transportation Policy.  We encourage all families to model a healthy, active lifestyle and walk/bike to school.
